They may not lie about substantial things and sometimes the lie is one of omission but no one tells the absolute or at least the whole truth all the time.

He or she may lie about past sexual experience or about altercations with the law like a DUI arrest or other criminal infraction. Men will often lie about their finances or their job or education.

Most of the time these little lies or omissions are harmless and nothing to be concerned about. To insist on complete honesty from a date, especially a first or second date is simply not practical.

After all he or she is trying to make an impression on you and sometimes they will let a little white one slip into the conversation to help his or her cause.

To hire a private detective to confirm or deny inconsequential facts about someone is foolish and a complete waste of time and money.

However, when the relationship becomes more serious and something he or she says brings to question a material fact about the person, the possibility of hiring someone to do fact finding investigation may be a prudent thing to do.

There are many public record searches that you can do yourself today. The Internet has made checking someone out a lot easier and a simple Google of the person’s name may be all you need to do.

There are also public record databases for birth, death and marriage license data that are easily accessible by anyone with a computer. If you don’t own a computer just go to the public library and use one there for free. There is usually someone there that can help you if you need it.

If you do your search and are still not satisfied then maybe it’s time to hire a professional who can do a more in depth investigation. Hiring a private investigator is sort of like hiring a best friend. The investigator will need personal information about you and about the person you want information about and there needs to be a strong relationship of trust between you and the investigator.

In most states private investigators are licensed and bonded. Many private investigators are former police officers and some offer special services like polygraph and PSE which is a kind of lie detector that uses voice stress analysis to determine truthfulness.

Private investigators buy access to criminal and document record databases that are not accessible to the public. They are also able to do interstate investigations by contacting another investigator in another state for local assistance.

If you decide to hire a private detective be aware that their services are not cheap. They often charge a fee plus expenses and the expenses can sometimes be as much as their fee.

One of the best ways to find someone fair and reasonable is to ask your attorney who he uses. Or ask a friend who may have hired a private investigator in the past. Checking with your local PBA or FOP police organizations may also be helpful as many private detectives remain active in these police organizations after they retire from the force.

Always get an estimate of the cost and always set a limit on the expenses you are willing to spend to acquire the information. A legitimate private detective will give you a detailed report with itemized expenses and a reasonable fee.

1. Does your partner always insist on picking up the check at a big dinner and/or throw down his or her credit card without even looking at the bill?

While this could be a sign of innate generosity – it could also be a warning sign of a bad relationship for someone who is trying to show off and is doing so by living beyond their means thanks to the “friendly” help of credit cards. My experience has been that financially fit individuals – no matter how much or how little money they have – take the time to review bills before paying for them. A cavalier attitude towards that dinner bill may be an indication of a cavalier attitude towards money in general.

2. Does your partner have a large but sparsely furnished apartment / home?

While it’s possible that your partner is just waiting for his or her “personal design sensibility” to present itself… more likely than not it’s a financial warning sign that you’ve got a case of what’s called down in Texas “Big Hat, No Cattle.” A phrase made popular in the wonderful book The Millionaire Next Door, it highlights a sad but true phenomenon. In today’s credit driven society, the guy with the big house or flashy car OR the gal with the four-digit handbag and the three-digit stilettos may well be presenting an exterior image that bears no resemblance to their true economic reality.

3. Does your partner avoid answering calls on his or her phone?

It’s possible it’s just mom checking in to see how the day is going… but
then again, it’s also possible that it’s bill collectors calling to find out when your partner is going to make good on that car payment, mortgage, credit card or other outstanding debts.

4. Does your partner lease his or her car?

Think about it, what’s the sales pitch for leasing – it’s “hey you can get more car for less money than if you buy outright!” As one of my all time favorite financial gurus, Dave Ramsey says, it should be called “fleecing” not leasing.  In financial matters, when it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

5. Does your partner ask you to co-sign or buy things in your name with promises to pay you back? Baring a life or death emergency, why would a financially responsible person ever ask their significant other to do this? This may be the clearest sign of all that your partner is hiding something.

A bad relationships is poisonous to both the body and the soul. If you are in a bad relationships you had better get out. There are people who have very low self esteem of themselves. If you are in a relationship and your partner does not respect you that is a bad relationships. Your partner might embarrass you when you friends and family members are around. He or she might also cause the children to disrespect you. This because of the things they tell the children about you. Children will not respect their parents if the partners to do not respect each other. Just like an abusive relationship, you should never stay in a bad relationships. You might be scared of getting out of it but the greatest courage is loving yourself enough to be able stand up for yourself and saying enough is enough and leave. You might end up not recognizing your self if you stayed longer in a bad relationships. They will make you feel unimportant and make you retreat in your shell. You might even start depending on them for everything.
